Tip # 1: Overcome writer’s block by going for a walk. This sounds simple enough, right? The key detail is to breath gently and with intention as you walk. Focus on your breath. Be present with each step. Notice the breeze, the feel of the air and the temperature of the day as it meets your skin. Look around at your surroundings and find gratitude for the moment. Clear your mind by focusing on the environment around you. To practice, set a timer as you begin your walk and make sure you spend at least ten minutes walking and breathing. After your walk, commit to sitting down for an additional ten minutes to write down your thoughts.
Tip #2: Overcome writer’s block by using our “stop and restart” method. It is as simple as it says, but this can be challenging, so here’s the How-To of it. Stop. Walk away from it and let go. Set a timer on your calendar for a few hours or maybe even a day. When that alarm goes off, you restart. Never be afraid to reach out to your sphere of influence for a bit of encouragement and inspiration. Take some time to recall your original vision for your manuscript. Think about your “end product” to encourage a bit of a new spark to keep going. You will get there! The hard work, perseverance and dedication will pay off.
Tip #3: Overcome writer’s block by making writing a priority. New habits are formed by accident and sometimes by choice. In this case, intentionally create a new habit by setting aside time each week that is for writing only. It is so important that you have this routine because the more dedicated you are to it, the more you will accomplish. No, you may not be inspired to write every single time you sit down, but rest assured you will get better and better at it as you continue to “meet with yourself” and prioritize your writing goals.
