Best Places to Write
Finding the perfect place to write is one of the most important aspects of completing your manuscript, but being able to write in locations that are not so ideal is important too, especially if you are traveling or on a deadline and have less control over your environment. The good news is there are many things you can do to orchestrate the best possible environment for writing. At KPW Publishing, we recommend getting into the habit of always having a few items with you. Here’s a “must have writers list.” If all you can carry is your phone you are in luck! Make sure you have an application on your smart phone that allows for voice to text journaling! Many of these applications are free and are a great way to capture your thoughts! You can then forward the text to yourself later and place it into your document to continue editing and writing from there. If you have an option to carry a “writers’ bag” we recommend including the following items.
- Writer’s bag.
- Note pad that inspires you.
- Pens and pencils you enjoy writing with.
- Extension cord.
- Cash
- Snacks and refillable Water Bottle
- Laptop or tablet for writing.
- Charged battery pack and charger for your tablet or laptop.
- Ear buds and ear plugs.
You may decide it is a great idea to have two of these “writers’ bags” ready to keep in separate locations you may find yourself in regularly.
The best place to write are locations and environments that appeal to your senses. Good habits are reinforced by creating a routine. The best routine is a positive one that you look forward to and genuinely enjoy. You will know when you find the perfect place to write because you will feel inspired to be creative! Some writers like a quite environment like a local library, while others are inspired to relax with more energy around them like at a coffee shop, or outdoors at a special café. Local parks are amazing for writing when the weather is nice. Grab a cushion and find a park bench or place on the ground under the shade of a nice tree. We also find that our authors say they love to write at bookstores. That is one of our personal favorites. What better inspiration than to write while being surrounded by books? Some bookstores have coffee and snacks so it’s a win-win allowing you to spend the whole day there. Another ideal location is museums. Some of them have little nooks and crannies where you can easily sit and write. Museums are quiet and have an artistic energy that can inspire and invigorate your writing process.
We recommend, whatever you find to be your ideal location for writing, that you get a change of scenery now and then. Wherever you decide to write, remember that your words have power to inspire. KPW Publishing believes in the power of the written word. We help authors wherever they are in their journey, from just and idea that has not seen the light of day, all the way to completed manuscripts that are ready for publishing.
